Greg Martin has served as the District 3 representative on the Hamilton County School Board since March of 2012. He also served on the Long Beach, MS School Board from 1993 to 1996. Martin is a 1981 graduate of Hixson High School, has a B.A. Degree from Bryan College, and Master's and Doctoral Degrees from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He and his four sons, Ben, Austin, Jay, and Peyton have been educated in five of the eight public schools in District 3.
Greg and Sheila MartinHe is the son of Dianne Killough Martin and the late John Martin, both of Hixson. Greg Martin’s wife, Sheila, taught for 10 years in the public schools of Hamilton County. He is a member of the Hixson Kiwanis, serves on the Board of Directors of the Friends of Hixson, and is on the Hixson Council of the Chamber of Commerce. Martin served on the Board of Directors of the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention from 1988-1996. At the age of 32, he was elected to serve as the chairman of that board, becoming the youngest chairman in the 145 year history of that benevolent organization. He is active in his church, Calvary Chapel Chattanooga.
Martin’s goals on the school board are to get the aged Ganns Middle Valley Elementary School replaced, build open communication with the Hamilton County Commission and other stakeholders of public education, and bring business efficiency to the Hamilton County Department of Education. Martin has been the Family Service Manager of Lakewood Memory Gardens and Hamilton County Memorial Park since 1999.
